On September 19, 2023, a powerful storm struck the coastal town of Hamnvik with wind speeds reaching up to 11(19) meters per second. The gusty winds had severe consequences for boat owners in the marina, where at least two boats were reported to have torn away from the quay and capsized during the storm.
Sea rescue services were swiftly called in to assist any affected boaters and ensure their safety amidst the treacherous weather conditions. In addition to the impact on the marina, ferry lines operating to and from the island were forced to cancel their services throughout the day due to the hazardous conditions. Residents and visitors alike were urged to exercise caution and stay informed as authorities worked tirelessly to manage the situation.
